Carbon Footprint

The Carbon footprint of Bitumen is a complex subject which is currently under review in the UK by the Technical Committee of the Refined Bitumen Association. In conjunction with this review is work undertaken by Eurobitume to update the 1999 Report into the Life Cycle Inventory of Bitumen.

Petroplus, as a member of RBA, are actively participating in a Joint industry research group, co-sponsored by HA/CSS(ADEPT)/MPA & RBA, which has commisioned TRL to produce a range of outputs relating to Carbon Footprinting of asphalt. The first such ouput was the launch in October 2009 of the aSPECT carbon calculator for Asphalt, an industry standard toolkit to enable UK asphalt producers to publish carbon footprint information for materials supplied using a common methodology.
